Online Addiction: Internet,gambling and game addiction

You must have heard people being addicted to drugs, cigarettes etc. but another form of addiction that is growing at an alarming rate post the home PC revolution is online addiction. You may not believe it but surfing on the internet compulsively is a new form of addiction, which is making its presence rapidly. In fact, if you spend a large chunk of your free time online just because you have nothing better to do, you could be one of the many suffering from online addiction.

Online addiction is mainly caused when individuals are unhappy from their life or maybe because they are just plain bored. Internet offers a wide range of possibilities from games to chat rooms wherein you can show yourself in a whole new light and meet infinite number of people and friends.

When online, hardly anybody knows you and you could easily pass yourself as a successful businessman while in reality you are working for someone else. This is why internet lures many people to its virtual world which is better than the grim reality.

This online addiction can be very harmful as it can and will make people outcasts in the real world. Such people suffer from identity crisis,online gambling,game addiction, depression and can make them unsuccessful in their businesses, jobs or even schools and colleges. It will also adversely affect their mental health and make them loners.

Internet, which is a great source of information for anything below or above the sun causes online addiction because it has so many links and sites on a single topic, that you simply cannot stop visiting to quench your thirst for knowledge. You become obsessive about it and this is when warning bells should start ringing.

If you cannot stay away from surfing the net for more than an hour, you have got a serious problem up your sleeve. The same can be said for playing games online, or gambling playing poker. You need to literally pull the plug and if possible get the computer out of your house. You should try to spend time in other recreational activities. In your office, try to use the internet for minimum duration.

Consider visiting a psychologist, if this addiction persists and if you do not wish to ruin your family life because of your online addiction. However, your determination is the greatest tool you have against any addiction you may ever face.
