Are you addicted to sugar?
All of us have a sweet tooth, but sometimes eating all those candies and sweets may turn out to be quite addictive. Sugar addiction is one of the most common addictions but it is virtually unknown.
People usually laugh it off when it is suggested that they may be addicted to sugar. This is probably because sugar is something that we use every day in some way or the other by consuming sodas, ketchups, soups or cookies and doughnuts and obviously desserts, candies and sweets. Sugar has been infamously credited with causing diabetes, heart problems, obesity, not to mention cavities and tooth decay. But in reality, sugar by itself cannot cause these diseases; there are other factors also that need to be considered.
But now we are concentrating on sugar addiction and not the other diseases. Everyone in this world surely loves the sugary treats but there are some who are mildly addicted while some others who simply cannot spend a few hours without sugar. If you crave for sugar and you have the feeling that you need to have something sweet whenever you are stressed out or nervous, you could have sugar addiction.
If you impulsively reach out for your favorite jelly beans or chocolates whenever you are feeling low or perhaps are just plain happy, you could be suffering from sugar addiction. Addiction is usually associated with weak people or people with weak personalities. But this is not the case. We all agree that sugar is consumed in large proportions in our day to day life, but there should be a limit. Though not all kinds of sugars are actually harmful, it does not mean that you could binge on them.
An individual on a daily basis could consume around 10 to 15 teaspoons of sugar without harming the body. But anything above this limit should make you see the red signal. Sugar is also used as a preservative, so before buying the canned food and fruits you should check out the labels.
In order to fool the consumers many a times the manufacturers use terms likeĀ corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, dextrose, glucose, honey, molasses, turbinado and brown sugar. All these are some or the other form of sugar. Try to limit the sugar consumption slowly in order to get rid of sugar addiction. If you still crave for sugar you should consider visiting your doctor for this problem.
